Box Score | LA JOLLA, Calif. – A comfortable halftime lead transformed into a close finish down the stretch Saturday but the No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team knocked down clutch free throws in the final minute to secure a 73-67 road win at UC San Diego.

The Broncos staked a 39-28 edge going into the break after knocking down six three-pointers through the first 20 minutes. UCSD rallied back to cut the margin to two points on a pair of occasions but CPP juniors Ariel Marsh and Ashley Lovett sank two free throws apiece in the final 21 seconds to help the visitors pick up the six-point victory.

With the Broncos' win and second-place Cal State East Bay falling to Cal State L.A., CPP's first-place lead is now at two games. The Broncos are 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while East Bay is tied with Cal State Dominguez Hills for second at 9-4.

Saturday's win completes CPP's first regular season series sweep over the Tritons since the 2010-11 campaign.

Four Broncos finished in double figures Friday as Marsh continued her five-game streak of 20-point performances with 20 against the Tritons. Marsh finished 11-for-12 at the free throw line while Lovett also starred in that category, going 7-for-8 on her attempts.

Lovett, a junior from Murrieta, totaled 19 points, nine rebounds and a season-high four assists. Jada Blackwell and J.J. Judge recorded double-digit scoring as well with totals of 14 and 11 respectively. Miranda Seto led the Tritons' attack with a game-high 25 points.

The Broncos and UCSD played even through the first 16 minutes of the contest and then Judge broke a 25-25 tie with one of her team-high three-pointers. With an assist from Blackwell on the play, that basket initiated a 14-3 run for CPP to close out the half.

The visiting Broncos' squad held an 11-point lead - 63-52 - into the final four minutes and 30 seconds of the contest but the Tritons reversed the momentum to make it an exciting finish. Megan Perry knocked down a trey to start an 8-0 run, which was snapped by a pair of Lovett free throws.

Although some missed one-and-one opportunities allowed UCSD to get the margin back to single possession in the final minute, Marsh and Lovett remained calm under pressure and tossed in the decisive free throw attempts.

The Broncos will return to action Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. game at local rival Cal State San Bernardino.
