Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Broncos Blank No. 7 Stanislaus, Win 1-0

POMONA, Calif. – For the second time this year, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team has emerged victorious over a nationally-ranked team. On Sunday, the Broncos bested No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus 1-0.

The win marked the second in as many games for CPP as the Broncos outscored their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents 4-0 through that time.

With the win, the Broncos improve to an overall tally of 8-4 and move up to an even 3-3 in conference play.

Having had only one loss on the year prior to Sunday, the upset for the Warriors of Stanislaus registers them with an overall 11-2 mark, good for a 4-2 record in the CCAA.

With the Stanislaus offense posting three shots more than the Broncos through the first half, the Broncos' defense stepped up big to enter the midway point with no numbers on the scoreboard.

A spark was lit under CPP as the second half came with five shots more than the first. Only one shot was needed as Alison Sauve sent one by the Warrior goalie to collect her second goal of the year. She received help from Stacey Atwater and Hailey James to post the goal, which would lead to a Bronco win.

The assists for Atwater and James were their first of the season. The goal gave Sauve her ninth in Bronco green and gold.

In the goal, Ricki Ives collected two more saves as the usually potent Warrior offense was blanked for only the second time this season.

The last time the Warriors were ranked while playing the Broncos was 2012, during which the Broncos scored a last-minute goal to secure the victory 3-2.

CPP will return to action as they take to the road and travel to San Francisco State on Oct. 17 to play the Gators. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
