Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight at SFSU

SAN FRANCISCO - Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer has secured another win, as their 1-0 overtime victory over San Francisco State on Friday marked their third consecutive win.

The Broncos fought hard against the Gators and after a golden goal in the fifth minute of overtime, CPP was able to prevail over their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponent.

"This was another tough win in a tough environment," head coach Mike Dibbini said. "After the first half we made some big adjustments, and we were just knocking on their door and we finally got the win in overtime. It was a big win; we needed this one to keep us in contention. It was a big confidence boost as we look forward to the next game. It was another team effort and another team win."

With the win, CPP moves ahead with a 9-4 record on the season, and a 4-3 tally in CCAA play.

SFSU now holds a 7-6 overall mark and they have amassed a 2-5 record in conference play.

In the first period, the Broncos' squad outshot the Gators 6-5.

The second half saw the Broncos offense with a second wind, they outshot the Gators 15-3, unfortunately none of the shots found the net. The CPP squad was not deterred though as they entered overtime with back-to-back shots on goal.

Entering overtime, the Broncos immediately started shooting. By the third minute Megan Kisslan had attempted a header and Indra Arteaga got her foot on a shot.

Halfway through minute five, and CPP found the magic combination. Kisslan found Alison Sauve open and sent her teammate the ball. Sauve launched the ball past the SFSU net-minder and gave the Broncos their second overtime win of the season.

The Broncos move on to play the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters on Sunday at 2 p.m. CSUMB lost 1-0 to UC San Diego on Friday.
