Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Broncos Defeat CSUMB, Win Fourth Straight

SEASIDE, Calif. – For the fourth-consecutive game, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team has come away with their heads held high. The Broncos defeated the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 2-0 in Sunday's game as the Otters played host in Seaside.

"It was another great time effort that resulted in a team win," said head coach Mike Dibbini. "We needed a win to stay alive and we got it, I am very proud of the girls."

Securing the win means that the CPP women's soccer team now holds an overall tally of 10-4 and owns a 5-3 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Otters' loss drops them to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in conference.

The Broncos came out of the gate strong as they put on an offensive show, shooting on the Otters four times in the first half and 11 times in the second. CSUMB's squad managed only four shots for the entire game.

In the 30th minute, Stacey Atwater put the Broncos on the board as her one-on-one showdown with the Otters' keeper saw Atwater emerge victorious. A pass from Daisy Duran, and a chip over the goalie by Atwater gave the Broncos their first goal.

The goal was Atwater's second goal of the year and Duran provided her fourth assist.

Entering halftime, the Broncos held a 1-0 lead over the Otters of CSUMB. Fourteen minutes into the second half, in the 59th minute of the game, the Broncos gave themselves a security goal as Melissa Martinez chipped it over the Otters' netminder for the second goal of the day, and her fourth of the season. Ariana Fleischman provided a pass to Martinez that enabled her to come out of the box with another goal.

The Otters' goalie was on her toes as she provided a total of eight saves for her team. Rickie Ives, the Broncos' netminder, found only two attempts come her way. She saved both, improving her season tally to 36.

CPP will return to action as they take on the Jacks of Humboldt State in a road match Friday at 12:30 p.m.
