Playoff Race Heats Up as Broncos #4 in West

POMONA, Calif. – As the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team vies for a playoff spot, there are but three regular season matches remaining. The Broncos, who have posted four-consecutive shutouts, will continue their road trip as they head up to Humboldt State to play the Jacks on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

CPP has registered a 10-4 overall record thus far in the 2014 season, while amassing a 5-3 tally in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). They currently have a hand on fourth place in conference, as they are tied with Cal State San Bernardino.

The Jacks have a 6-8 mark in the regular season and own a 1-7 in league play. The Broncos' last win came as they defeated the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 2-0 on Sunday.

Leading the way for the Broncos offensively is freshman midfielder Daisy Duran. She has scored five times on the season and is currently ninth on the CCAA leaderboard. She is followed closely by Melissa Martinez who has four, and Amanda Gomez and Alison Sauve who have registered three apiece.

Duran also leads the Broncos in assists as she and Indra Arteaga both hold four assists on the season. Martinez is on her tail again with three of her own.

HSU's offense poses a sizable threat as its top scorer holds five goals, followed by another squad member with four, and then two following at third place with three.

Following Friday's match, the Broncos will head to Sonoma State to challenge the Seawolves at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. SSU currently has tallied a 13-2-0 season total, with a 6-2 in conference play. The Seawolves will play host to the UC San Diego Tritons on Friday.

Looking further ahead to Thursday, Oct. 30, the Broncos will have their final conference home game of the season, as they host Cal State L.A. at Kellogg Field. Thursday's game will be Senior Day as the Broncos celebrate the accomplishments of five seniors.
