Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Broncos Earn Win, Record, and Playoff Spot

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – On Sunday, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team secured two things. Their 1-0 win over the No. 15 Seawolves of Sonoma State earned them a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) playoffs, as well as a spot in the Cal Poly Pomona Women's Soccer Record Books.

The shutout marked the sixth consecutive shutout for women's soccer, bumping the five-straight shutout record that has been held since 1999.

The win marks the fourth time the CPP squad has bested a top 25 team this season. They also secured victories against Metro State, Regis University, and Cal State Stanislaus.

"I couldn't be more proud of the girls," said head coach Mike Dibbini. "They executed the game plan and from start to finish they played together as a team. All that together and they got the most important result."

CPP now holds an overall record of 12-4 and the win improves them to a 7-3 tally in the CCAA.

The loss registers Sonoma with a 6-4 conference mark, which is good for 13-4 on the season.

At the onset of the matchup between the Seawolves and the Broncos, neither team could gain much of an advantage. The first half saw the CPP offense only shoot three times on the hometown goal. SSU managed four of their own.

The two well-matched teams entered halftime with the scoreboard blank.

The second half the Seawolves added a few more shots to their tally, as they attempted six times to get the ball past Ricki Ives in the Broncos' goal.

CPP found themselves with five scoring opportunities in the second half, but only one was needed, as Rachel Killigrew put them Broncos ahead 1-0 in the 73rd minute.

A junior from Foster City, Killigrew's goal marked her second on the season as well as her second in Bronco green and gold, her first was also a game winner, as she was the first to put one in the net against Cal State East Bay.

Killigrew's goal came at the result of a Sonoma foul. She booted the ball into the net from 20 yards out and gave the Broncos the goal that would carry them to a win. The goal was Killigrew's only shot on goal for the day.

In goal for the Broncos Ricki Ives added a save to her tally on the season. Not only has CPP earned six straight shutouts, but they currently hold 11 shutouts on the season.

Prior to today's game, the potent Seawolves' offense has only been blanked twice, and they have outscored their opposition by a margin of 35-12.
The steadfast Broncos defense has allowed only 10 goals in their 16 games played on the season.

CPP returns to action for the final game of the regular season on Thursday as they celebrate "Senior Day" and take on the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. at 7 p.m.
