Women's Soccer Topped by Dominguez hills

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 on Sunday by the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The loss takes the Broncos to an overall record of 6-4 and a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) record of 1-3.

Cal State Dominguez Hills registered its first win on the year and now hold a 1-9-1 overall mark and a 1-3 record in conference play.

CPP found itself at a disadvantage in the 11th minute as the Toros were able to move the ball past the defense and find the net. Megan Steinberger found space around the top of the 18-yard box and lined a shot post the Broncos' netminder.

The game entered halftime with the Toros leading the Broncos 1-0. At that point, the Broncos had outshot CSUDH 9-2 but had trouble finding an opening.

In the waning minutes of the game, the Broncos found themselves on the defending end of a corner kick. With Gabrielle Pena taking that attempt, she found Megan Mahoney with a slew of players crashing into the box. Mahoney deposited a shot into the net to extend the lead to 2-0.

Once again CPP found itself with nine shots in the second half, but no shots were fortunate enough to go in. The Toros' goalie registered nine saves for herself.

Ricki Ives added three more saves to her tally for the year and eight different Broncos attempted a shot on goal.

CPP women's soccer will return to action on Friday at 3 p.m. for the first game of the day as Kellogg Field will host its' annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
