WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - With the official season opener set for Friday night at Kellogg Gym, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team has been picked to finish first in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this year.
The CCAA preseason coaches' poll results were announced Wednesday. CPP collected 117 points and received eight first-place votes to finish ahead of defending CCAA Regular-Season Champion Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes totaled 108 points and two-first place votes.
Busy Weekend at Kellogg Gym On the opening weekend of the 2014-15 season, the Broncos will host four games at Kellogg Gym. On Friday, Cal State San Bernardino will play Azusa Pacific at 5 p.m. Following that game, CPP challenges Westmont at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Coyotes of CSUSB will take on Westmont at 5 p.m. before the Broncos play Azusa Pacific at 7:30 p.m. The Kellogg Gym ticket booth will open at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Cal Poly Pomona begins its 15th season under head coach
Greg Kamansky and is coming off of a 22-7 season, which included a fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the six years. Last week, CPP challenged Stanford and Arizona in a Pac-12 exhibition road trip.

The Broncos' roster features a number of top returners including All-CCAA First Team selection
Jordan Faison and
Terrence Drisdom. Last season, Faison averaged 14.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and finished second in the CCAA with a 56.5 shooting percentage. Prior to last year's redshirt season, Drisdom was one of two Broncos to earn All-American status after totaling 89 assists, 61 steals, and averaging 13 points per game in 2012-13.
Around the CCAA Eight CCAA institutions — Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Stanislaus, and Sonoma State will begin regular-season play on Friday, Nov. 14. CCAA play will begin on Nov. 22 when the Broncos and Lumberjacks host the Tritons and Coyotes, respectively.

The 2015 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament will be played March 5 through March 7 at Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif.
