POMONA, Calif. – The nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona baseball team hosted an international exhibition game Tuesday against Japan Railways East.

Prior to the 2 p.m. first pitch at Scolinos Field, the Bronco student-athletes and JR East players exchanged gifts. The game provided an opportunity for CPP to not only try a new lineup but also to gain international experience on the field.

The JR East trip through Southern California has included games against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine and University of San Diego. The program competes in the Industrial League of Japan and has captured the Japan Amateur Baseball Association (JABA) championship in recent years.

The Broncos have been featured at No. 16 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national poll for Division II. CPP has also been listed at No. 11 in the National Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Writers Association (NCBWA), No. 24 by D2BaseballNews.com and No. 26 by College Baseball Lineup.

Conference play resumes Thursday for the Broncos with a road doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Because of rain in the forecast later in the week, CPP and Cal State Dominguez Hills have changed their series schedule. The two squads are now set to play a doubleheader in Carson on Thursday with two nine-inning games included. The series will then finish up on Sunday with a doubleheader in Pomona.
