Box Score | TURLOCK, Calif. - Four Broncos scored in double figures Friday as the 15th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team used a big second-half performance to collect a 69-58 road win over Cal State Stanislaus.
Juniors
Jada Blackwell and
Ariel Marsh recorded 18 points apiece to lead the offense while CPP outrebounded the Warriors, 47-35.
Blackwell posted a double-double in the first half alone and ended up with a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 18 points. She also shined defensively, recording a season-high five blocks. The last Bronco to record five or more blocks in a single game was Aprile Powell's seven swats in a December 2000 game against SF State.
After clinching the conference title outright last Saturday at Kellogg Gym, the Broncos are now 21-4 overall and 18-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CPP will start its postseason in the semifinal round of the CCAA Championships on Friday, March 7. The Broncos will play their regular season finale tomorrow night at Chico State. Saturday's matchup will start at 5:30 p.m.
Friday's game in Turlock played out evenly through the first six minutes as the Warriors took a 15-13 edge after a Jasmine Washington layup at the 13:42 mark. CPP got seven-straight points from Marsh after that basket though and Blackwell added a layup to cap off a 9-0 run for the visitors.
Stanislaus used a run of its own late in the opening half to cut the margin to 31-29 heading into the break.
Senior guard
J.J. Judge provided a lift for the Broncos' offense in the second half, knocking down a three-pointer and converting on another three-point play to stretch the CPP edge into double digits. Between the 12:45 and 5:27 marks, the Broncos outscored the Warriors 22-3 to put the game out of reach.
Ashley Lovett turned in a strong performance of 11 points and seven rebounds while
Mian Dingle contributed a career-high nine rebounds.
The CPP defense limited the Warriors throughout the Friday contest. Stanislaus shot just 30.3 percent from the floor, including a 5-for-24 effort from beyond the arc.
