Ponce Selected as Cape Cod League All-Star

BREWSTER, Mass. – As one of the many aces on the Cal Poly Pomona pitching staff this past spring, Cody Ponce continues to find success on the diamond this summer.

Earlier this week, Ponce earned a spot on the East Division roster for the Cape Cod League All-Star Game to be played Sunday in Massachusetts at 3 p.m. Pacific (6 p.m. Eastern). The game will air on Fox College Sports Atlantic and audio will be streamed online by the local WCAI station

The premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885, the Cape League features a 44-game schedule. With more than 1,000 alumni performing at all levels of professional baseball in 2013, a record total 257 former Cape Leaguers populate major league rosters.

Competing for the Brewster Whitecaps, Ponce has already made six starts while maintaining a 2.10 earned run average paired with a 3-1 record. Through 30 innings pitched, he's collected 26 strikeouts. Ponce is the only student-athlete in the Cape League from the Division II level.

Under the leadership of head coach Randy Betten, the 2014 Broncos went 32-17 overall and 23-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CPP reached the conference and NCAA playoffs while Ponce was one of 10 Broncos to receive All-CCAA honors.
