CPP Falls to Dixie, Finishes First Week at 2-1 Record

Box Score | SEATTLE – After a 2-0 start to the season Friday, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Dixie State on Saturday to wrap up play in Seattle.

Competing at the season-opening invitational hosted by Seattle Pacific, the Broncos will take a 2-1 record into their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and home opener on Friday at Kellogg Gym against Chico State.

Against Dixie on Saturday, CPP stayed close in all three sets but couldn't slow down the Red Storm. The scores finished as 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20 as Dixie limited the Broncos to a .127 attack percentage.

Sophomore Hannah Harrer led CPP in kills for the second-consecutive match, recording nine against the Red Storm. Shelby Sorenson proved to be the catalyst for the Dixie offense as she racked up 40 assists through the three sets.

In the opening set, Harrer notched a kill on the first point and went on a serving run to help the Broncos take a 7-2 lead. DSC chipped away at the edge and scored the final five points of the frame.

CPP once again started strong in the second, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. The Red Storm found late momentum though and captured another 25-22 result. The Broncos held a 13-12 edge in the third frame but DSC rattled off six-consecutive points to take control of the frame and finish the sweep.

Defensively for CPP, Alexa Hasen totaled five block assists while Zoe Herrera contributed 12 digs. Alina Smith collected 16 assists.

At the conclusion of the tournament, junior middle blocker Christen Williams earned a spot on the SPU All-Tournament Team. Through three matches, she posted a hitting percentage of .395 and recorded 0.92 blocks per set.
