Men's Soccer Plays to a 0-0 Draw at Dixie State

Box Score | ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team posted its second-consecutive shutout on Saturday, playing to a 0-0 draw against Dixie State.
 
The Broncos' overall record settles at 1-0-1 while the host Red Storm squad moves to 0-0-1.
 
On Saturday night in St. George, CPP tallied 21 shots as opposed to DSC's 13. The largest shot advantage for the Broncos came in the second half, when the visitors held a 10-2 advantage in that statistic.
 
Junior goalkeeper Fernando Pablo Quevedo collected six saves in his second-straight shutout performance. In front of him, the Broncos' backline put together a strong performance with Jose Ortega, Jeremy Totays and Leonel Espinoza leading the way.
 
Offensively, Alexander Turkson and Daniel Garcia Jr. led the CPP squad in shots with five apiece. Both players landed two shots on target.
 
While the first overtime featured only one shot overall, the second overtime period featured a flurry of activity. In the final minute of the match, the Red Storm attempted a corner kick and ripped two shots. Quevedo made a pivotal stop to keep the 0-0 score intact.
 
Christian Gonzalez Diaz, who scored twice on Thursday against Holy Names, entered Saturday's match off the bench and recorded four shots.


CPP will continue non-conference play on Sunday, Sept. 14 with an 11:30 a.m. match at Cal State L.A.
