Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CPP Wins 70-48, Knocks Seawolves Out of 1st

POMONA, Calif. – When it's a battle for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), you can expect a tense game. The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team secured the 70-48 victory Saturday over Sonoma State and as a result, the Broncos now share the conference lead with only Cal State Stanislaus.

Three Broncos reached the double-digit point mark en route to the win at Kellogg Gym. Terrence Drisdom contributed a 7-for-13 performance from the field, which gave him a game-high 18 points. The Corona native also pulled down eight rebounds and two steals. Jordan Faison provided 11 points and Daniel Rodriguez sank 5-of-6 for his 10 points while adding two steals.

Jordan Finn put together a balanced performance, collecting nine points, two steals and a game-high four assists. Six other Broncos supplied at least two assists.

From the field, 29-of-56 shots proved successful for CPP as they ended up with a 51.8-percent shooting tally. The Broncos secured 15 offensive rebounds to the Seawolves' four and totaled 20 second-chance points.

Turnovers are a crucial part of any game, and CPP tallied a positive margin of eight. The Broncos scored 21 points off SSU's turnovers.

After the Seawolves took a 2-0 lead, the Broncos immediately went on a 6-0 run. Throughout the course of the game, the Broncos did not allow the visitors to score more than four-consecutive points.

With a pair of eight-point sprees, and a couple of 6-0 spurts, the Broncos held the lead from the Drisdom go-ahead layup with nearly two minutes played all the way to the final buzzer. Halftime featured CPP up 12 after a beautiful Drisdom buzzer-beater three.

As a tweet from a Bronco fan proved, Saturday's game featured plenty of excitement:

Three minutes of action was all Rhon Mitchell needed to go 3-for-3 in the final 90 seconds as he also gave the Broncos their 70th and final point.

The Broncos will take to the road next weekend as they challenge the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles.
