CPP to Host Unbeaten Jacks on Military Night

POMONA, Calif. – Atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) there sits a lone undefeated team, Humboldt State. On Friday at 5:30 p.m., the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos will challenge the Jacks in an attempt to offset their perfect conference mark.

Friday will mark the Broncos' annual Military Appreciation Night. All patrons who present their military I.D., current or expired, will receive free entrance into the game and will be recognized by branch of service. CPP will honor a few service members and the event will feature a halftime service basketball game.

Heading into the contest, the Jacks have secured a 14-1 overall mark while going 10-0 in conference. CPP sits in second place with a 8-2 CCAA tally and a 10-4 record on the season.

While HSU enjoys its spot at the top, the CPP women's basketball team claims some fame of its own. Experience certainly shines through for the Broncos as seniors Jada Blackwell, Ariel Marsh, Ashley Lovett, and Lauren Goecke all hold spots on the CCAA leaderboards.

Blackwell, a Rancho Cucamonga native, claims the conference No. 1 spot in points per game with 20.6, field goals made at 105 and three-point percentage with 47.4.

Marsh, who recorded a career-high 33 points in last week's contest against Cal State L.A., leads the conference with 24 successful shots from beyond the arc. She also is a mere percent from being first place in free throw percentage with her 45-of-50 made. The Chino Hills native has also earned her way into the top five in field goals made, three-point percentage, overall points, and points per game.

Ever the defensive threat, Lovett is near the top in defensive rebounds, total rebounds, and rebounds per game. She has also landed at No. 3 among CCAA players with a 56.6 field goal percentage. Goecke has earned her way onto the list with her 61 assists and an average of 4.4 assists per game, settling at the No. 2 spot.

Nationally in NCAA Division II, the Broncos rank 12th in field-goal percentage and 15th in assist to turnover ratio.

After Friday's matchup against the Jacks, CPP will move on to the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino. CSUSB has earned a 7-3 mark in the conference and sits just behind the Broncos. They have earned a season tally of 11-3.

CPP and the Coyotes will face off on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader. The matchup will also celebrate Greek Spirit Night for CPP. The event, featuring games and food sales from Greek organizations, is sponsored by Greek Life and Greek Council.
