TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team battled the Stanislaus State Warriors to a 2-2 tie on Sunday. The game lasted a full 90-minute regulation as well as two 10 minute overtime periods. Scoring both of the goals for the Broncos was
Daisy Duran.
CPP now has a 6-3-2 mark on the 2015 season, complete with a 3-2-1 showing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The tie gave the Warriors their second such result of the season as they now hold a 8-3-2 record this season, complete with a 4-2-2 standing in conference play.
Stanislaus State scored first in the contest as a goal in minute 14 put them up 1-0. Jordan Moineau of the Warriors scored on a volley after one of her teammates aimed a free kick at the CPP goal.
At halftime, the two teams remained with that 1-0 score.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half,
Daisy Duran, a sophomore from San Dimas, secured her second goal of the season. She received a cross from
Reanne Macon from the left corner of the field and sent a shot from the six yard line into the back of the Warrior net.
Five minutes later Duran was at it again. In the game's 71st minute, a pass from
Sydney Yates made its way to Duran's feet and the ball was sent past the hometown keeper to put the Broncos up 2-1. With the goal, Duran now leads the Green and Gold in the category.
A minute and a half later, Jade Poon of the Warriors was on the advantageous side of a penalty call inside the CPP box. She provided her teammates with the tying goal in the game as her shot made it past the Broncos' keeper.
As a team, the Broncos have proven all year to be persistent on offense. In Sunday's contest they outshot the hometown Warriors 29-10. Eight of the Green and Gold's shot were on goal, and Stanislaus State's keeper earned herself six saves.
The Green and Gold will return home to Pomona to host the Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m. The game is part of a two-game homestand for the Broncos. The contest at Kellogg Field will mark CPP's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
CSUSB's squad was topped by the Cal State East Bay Pioneers 1-0 on Sunday and will head to Pomona with an overall 4-5-3 record, complete with a 3-2-1 mark in conference play.
