Yates' Late Goal Lifts Broncos to 1-0 Win

POMONA, Calif. - A goal in the 81st minute lifted the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team to a 1-0 home win over Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday at Kellogg Field.

After 80 minutes of scoreless play, Sydney Yates struck for her second career goal with an assist from Sommer Larrabee. Both Yates and Larrabee are freshman and that play proved to be the first career point for Larrebee on the assist.

With the shutout win, CPP improves to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Broncos now sit in a three-team tie for third place in the conference standings. Up next, CPP hosts Chico State on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday against the visiting Coyotes, the Broncos dominated the shot total with a 15-5 advantage in that category. The CPP defense limited San Bernardino to just two shots in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ricki Ives earned her third shutout of the season, collecting three saves on Wednesday.

On the offensive side of the ball, Daisy Duran and Reanne Macon helped apply some pressure on the Coyotes. Those two players collected three shots apiece.

The Broncos continue to feature a balanced offense with 14 different players contributing at least one goal each and 17 players notching at least one point. After Wednesday's game-winning score, Yates now ranks third on the team in points with five.

Friday's home game against Chico State will be part of Heroes Night at Kellogg Field, with current and former police, fire and military personnel will receive free admission.
