Overtime Header Boosts Gators to 1-0 Victory

SAN FRANCISCO-  A scoreless regulation sent Sunday afternoon's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) soccer contest into overtime where a first minute header boosted the San Francisco State Gators over the nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos.

The match gave the Green and Gold just their second loss on the season as they now hold a 9-2-3 tally complete with a 6-2-2 mark in the CCAA. The Gators' win improves them to 7-6-3 thus far this season with a record of three wins, five losses, and three ties in conference play.

A full 90 minute regulation went by as the two opponents remained scoreless. The entire game was a testament to the determination of every team in the CCAA as the Broncos held a slight shot advantage, owning 12 to the Gators' 10.

Both keepers tallied three saves in the competition, however, the final shot that the hometown Gators needed made its way by the Broncos' defense.

Less than one minute into the first overtime period, Robert Kelly of the Gators sent a cross in front of the CPP goal and a header from Jordan Wusstig reached the back of the net. It was his first goal of the 2015 season.

The Broncos will return to action for their final week of regulation play in the CCAA on Thursday as they host the Humboldt State Jacks at Kellogg Field.

After the Broncos host the Jacks, they will host their final regular season contest of 2015 with the Sonoma State Seawolves making their way to Kellogg Field. The game on Saturday will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will celebrate the members of CPP's squad that are playing their final season of eligibility for the Broncos in 2015.

The semifinal and final rounds of the CCAA Tournament will be held at Cal Poly Pomona in the beginning of November.

With the first and second place team earning a bye, the conference's third place team will host its sixth place squad, and fourth will host fifth to determine what two teams will challenge the conference leaders at Kellogg Field.
