Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@cppmsoccer Routs Jacks 5-0 at Kellogg Field

POMONA, Calif. – A 5-0 rout of California Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents Humboldt State is what fans witnessed at Kellogg Field as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team secured their 10th win of the season. The Broncos, who secured a CCAA Postseason berth last season have just one regular season game to play.

The Green and Gold improved to an overall tally of 10-2-3, complete with a 7-2-2 mark in the CCAA with Thursday's win. HSU's loss was their ninth in conference play, posting them at 0-9-2 in CCAA en route to a 1-12-2 showing thus far in 2015.

"I'm excited that we were able to have a complete performance against a very good team," said head coach Yossi Raz. "I think Humboldt is a tougher team than people give them credit for and a better team than their record shows. I felt that we were very good going forward, but more importantly, we were very good with our ball possession and balance behind our attacks. I hope to see our guys bring a similar performance on Senior Day against Sonoma, another quality team, so that we can have some good momentum heading into the CCAA playoffs."

CPP's first goal of the game came from team goal-leader Christian Gonzalez Diaz. In the game's ninth minute, Gonzalez Diaz received a pass from Michael Torres at the edge of the penalty box to his spot a few yards in front of the goal and booted it past the HSU goalkeeper for his seventh goal of the season. It was Torres' fourth assist of 2015.

In the game's 22nd minute, Alexander Turkson would give the Green and Gold its second goal. Mathew Perez sent a pass to Kris Korich who immediately dished it off to Turkson. Korich's pass was from the right side of the goal and found Turkson right in front of an open section of the Jacks' net. Turkson's goal was his fifth of the season. It was Perez and Korich's third and second assist of the season, respectively.

Less than a minute later, a still recover Jacks' defense was set back again as Gonzalez Diaz came in for his second goal of the game. A breakaway from the senior and a deke of the visiting goalie gave the Mission Viejo native his eighth goal of the season and the Broncos the 3-0 lead. Earning assists on the shot once again were Korich and Perez.

For CPP's final goal in the first half, Korich posted his first goal of the season. A pass from Patricio Yrizar got to an open Korich and from there Korich's shot reached the bottom left side of the Jacks' net. The assist was Yrizar's second of the season.

After the halftime break was over, the Green and Gold posted their final goal of the game. Sergi Monso, CPP's Barcelona Spain native, secured his fourth goal of the season. Turkson came up with the assist on the goal as a pass to Monso went past a stunned opposing goalie and Monso was free to take the wide-open shot.

CPP will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game marks the annual senior day event the Broncos host each year. The contest will mark the final regular season game in Green and Gold that Fernando Pablo Quevedo,Christian Gonzalez DiazMichael TorresKris KorichElliott BondeAaron Macedo,Alexander Turkson, and Justyn Peeples will play.
