POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's volleyball team seeks to continue its winning ways as the Broncos go on the road for two matches this week.
Â
Currently, the third-place Green and Gold own a 13-9 overall record complete with a 9-5 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Â
To start the week, CPP will travel to La Jolla to take on the Tritons of UC San Diego on Friday at 7 p.m. The Tritons' record is identical to the Broncos, owning a 9-5 record in the CCAA and an overall record of 13-9.
Â
This will be the third meeting between these two teams, but neither previous meeting has had this much on the line. The winner will walk away with sole possession of third place in the CCAA. So far the series is split with each team securing a victory on the opponent's home court.
Â
The Green and Gold have several players among the conference statistical leaders. Senior libero
Zoe Herrera leads the team in digs with 391. Freshman middle blocker
Kristen Hamlin is pacing CPP in attack percentage at .271 and senior middle blocker
Alexa Hasen leads the team with 53 total blocks.
Â
Looking beyond the Friday match in La Jolla, the Green and Gold will head to San Bernardino to take on the No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Saturday at 7 p.m. The second-place Coyotes record currently sits at 12-2 in the CCAA and 19-3 overall.
Â
This is the second meeting between the two teams on the year. The Coyotes defeated the Broncos 3-1 on Oct. 15 at Kellogg Arena.
Â
Next week, the Broncos will remain on the road for two more matches. The team will head north to take on the San Francisco State Gators and then to Hayward to take on the Cal State East Bay Pioneers.
Â
Fans should circle their calendar for the final home match of the season on Nov. 11. The match will mark the final time that seniors
Zoe Herrera,
Kirsten Rutledge,
Alexa Hasen,
Christen Williams and
Nicoletta Stork will suit up for CPP in the regular season.
Â
In addition to it being Senior Night, all current and former police, fire and military personnel will receive free admission into the match as CPP celebrates its heroes. Free water bottles will also be handed out to the first 100 fans in attendance.
