SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team suffered a three-point loss to Simon Fraser on Saturday in neutral site matchup at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino.
The 77-74 loss drops the Broncos to a season tally of 0-4, but there were many bright spots on the floor for the young CPP squad in the contest. Four members wearing Green and Gold earned double-digit points as they were led by both
Jordyn Shane and
Erin Hagan who recorded 15 points apiece.
Following Shane and Hagan in the points tally was
Alyssa Benton with 13 of her own and
Priscilla Brooks, who tallied 10 for herself. From the floor the Broncos shot 42.4% in the game, sinking 25-of-59 shots taken. CPP was stellar from the free throw line, sinking all but four shots and tallying 22-of-26.
Hagan and
Jackie Ricketson led the Broncos in rebounds in the contest as both pulled down six. Ricketson split her total with three offensive and three defensive while Hagan's six came at one offensive and five defensive.
The first two quarters ended with the Broncos trailing by four in the quarter score. Quarter three had the Clan just three up in the quarter and in the fourth and final quarter the Green and Gold posted eight more points than the Canada-based opponents.
In the matchup, the SFU squad only sank two more shots than CPP and were just a tad more accurate, sinking 27-of-59 for a 45.8% shooting.
The next game for the Broncos will be on Tuesday, Nov. 24, as they head to La Mirada to challenge the host school Biola. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be the 14th time the two squads have faced off. In the all-time series, the Broncos have not lost, posting a 13-0 record.
After they face off against Biola, the Broncos will turn their attention to Hope International as they play their final non-conference game before entering California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. Conference play for CPP will kick off on Dec. 2 as it hosts the Cal State LA Golden Eagles and Kellogg Arena.
