Broncos Head Into Final Week of Non-CCAA Play

POMONA, Calif. – On Tuesday the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team will continue their 2015-16 season with a 5:30 p.m. start against the Eagles of Biola University.

The game will be the fifth of the season and with it the Broncos will be looking to snag their first victory of the season. On Saturday, the Green and Gold finished their fourth quarter just three points back of the Clan from Simon Fraser.

Looking at the all-time series between the Broncos and Eagles one will see a decidedly large advantage in the CPP squad's favor. The Green and Gold have won all 13 matches that they have played against Biola.

Thus far in the 2015-16 season, the Biola squad has won 66% of their games, posting a 4-2 overall record. Their last contest, played on Nov. 20 against Montana Tech, was a 74-71 decision in their favor.

After the contest with the Broncos, BU will play their final non-conference game against the University of Redlands Bulldogs on Tuesday, Dec. 1. After the matchup with the Bulldogs, the Eagles will then begin their Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) play.

The Broncos will also have just one more non-conference matchup after their game on Tuesday. Nov. 28 will see them head to Fullerton to challenge Hope International. The matchup will be the two squads first-ever meeting.

Hope International's squad, the Royals, have thus far earned a 3-0 record on the season including a 62-57 defeat of the Jacks of Humboldt State on Nov. 19.

After the Broncos challenge HIU, they will return to Kellogg Arena to host the Cal State LA Golden Eagles for the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup. That game will be held on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m.

CPP is led offensively by freshman Jordyn Shane. A product of Victor Valley High School, Shane averages 10 points a game for the Green and Gold and has thus far done so with a .391 shooting percentage. She has also secured a team leading 10 free throws made, and impressively so since she has taken just 10 shots from the free throw line.

Mary Williams is the most accurate Bronco on the court so far this season, sinking 6-of-8 shots en route to a .750 mark from the field. Alyssa Benton has sank half of her shots from beyond the arc, thereby leading the Green and Gold in three-point efficiency.

With 31 boards on the season, sophomore Priscilla Brooks leads the CPP squad in each category of rebounding. The Riverside native has pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and 18 of the defensive type. Brooks also tops the Broncos' list with four steals and four blocks so far this season.
