Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos Top Young Harris 75-69 Saturday

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team topped the Mountain Lions of Young Harris 75-69 on Saturday in the two squad's first ever meeting. Young Harris plays out of Young Harris Georgia and competes for the Gulf South Conference (GSC)

Leading the way for the Broncos was Jordan Faison, who racked up a team-leading 22 points in the contest. The senior made 10-of-14 shots in the two halfs and was one of four members of the Green and Gold to reach double-digit points. CPP was able to boast stellar teamwork from it's squad as Barry Bell led the field with nine assists in the contest, a career-high in that category.

The win improved the CPP squad to a 6-0 record heading into next week's start of 2015-16 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

Joining Faison on the double-digit points list were Quentin Taylor, Jeremy Dennis, and Jordan Ogundiran. Taylor and Dennis each sank four shots from the field en route to their 13 points. Taylor's two attempts from beyond the arc each found their mark as did three free throws. Dennis boosted his point tally with one three and four successful free throws.

Doing a stellar job in his debut season for the Green and Gold, Ogundiran tallied 10 points on a 4-for-7 shooting, with a made three and free throw.

Besides just leading the Broncos on offense, Faison was able to boast 10 rebounds as well, making the performance his first double-double of the year.

The Broncos proved to be the more efficient squad on the court, sinking 51.9% of their shots as opposed to the 41.5% showing from the Mountain Lions. A majority of CPP's points came from inside the paint, with 40-of-75 points being so.

Young Harris, early on, led the Green and Gold, and did so until the clock read 8:40 to go in the first half and a Dennis three put the Broncos up 19-17. His three was in the middle of an 11-point run that ended up giving the hometown Broncos a six-point lead over the opposition.

As the halftime break came, the CPP team had expanded their lead to nine and led the Mountain Lions 40-31.

After that first-half Dennis long-ball, the Broncos never relinquished the lead. The visiting YHC team did come close and at one point in the second half trailed the Green and Gold by a mere two points. However, in true Bronco fashion, a few shots were strung together and CPP once again pushed their lead up by more than just a basket.

At the end of the game, the Green and Gold led by six points with the score at 75-69 in their favor.
