POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team will head to La Jolla on Tuesday as they play visitor to the UC San Diego Tritons in the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Triton Soccer Field.
After splitting the final week of regular season play, the CPP squad finished the 2015 regular season with an overall 9-6-2 mark with a 6-5-1 showing in conference play. The Broncos clinched the No. 5 seed in the CCAA Tournament while UCSD holds the No. 4 spot. The winner will play Sonoma State on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Kellogg Field in Pomona.
The Tritons of UCSD finished the regular season with a conference showing of 7-4-1 en route to an overall 12-5-1 record on the regular season. The lone meeting between the two squads in the 2015 regular season was on Sept. 18 in La Jolla. The Green and Gold emerged on top after a 3-2 overtime victory.
UCSD was the first team that the Broncos faced in last season's playoff run. That game took place at Kellogg Field and CPP won 2-0. The win was the first playoff victory in CPP's 15-6-1 nationally-ranked season, a number that proved to be the second best finish in program history.
With 13 appearances to date, UCSD has compiled the most successful record of the CCAA schools when it comes to the conference tournament. Overall, they have earned a 15-3-3 record which also includes seven titles. The Broncos are third place amongst the CCAA schools with eight appearances in the postseason tournament and have posted a record of four wins and seven losses en route to one title.
CPP's last CCAA tournament title came in 1999, the year of the program's best-ever record. The Tritons will be looking to take home the title after their last title victory in 2012.
Serving as the HostCal Poly Pomona will serve as the hosts of the CCAA Soccer Championships coming up this weekend. The conference postseason for women's soccer and men's soccer includes the top six teams, with first-round matches beginning at campus sites on Tuesday.
The winners of the first-round matches will face the top two seeds at Kellogg Field at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Nov. 6 at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Championship contests will be played on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. For more information, visit

Beyond the CCAA ChampionshipsOnce the conference postseason wraps up, the NCAA will unveil its tournament field on Monday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. on NCAA.com. The top six teams from the West Region will advance.
