CPP's NorCal Road Trip Features Sonoma, SF


POMONA, Calif. - Just one win out of first place in the conference standings, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team will return to Northern California this weekend for matchups at Sonoma State and San Francisco State.

The third-place Broncos will take on SSU in Rohnert Park on Friday before challening the Gators of SFSU on Saturday. Both matchups are set for 5:30 p.m. start times. Just above CPP in the standings are Humboldt State and Cal State Dominguez Hills, two squads tied with 14-2 conference marks.

Earlier this season at Kellogg Gym, CPP secured victories over the Seawolves and Gators. The Broncos topped SSU 80-56 and secured an 80-43 win against the Gators. So far in 2014-15, CPP is 15-5 overall and 13-3 in league action. 

The Broncos will return for their final regular season homestand next week with a game against Cal State L.A. on Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. It'll be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night at Kellogg Gym as CPP celebrates a select group of faculty and staff members, who receive honors at halftime.

The Cal Poly Pomona Homecoming will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21, and the day's events will feature a women's basketball game at 5:30 p.m. and a men's basketball game at 7:30. CPP senior center Jada Blackwell is the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) points leader with a 19.4 average. Blackwell is ranked No. 2 in both rebounds per game (9.1) and field goal percentage at 52.0. Ariel Marsh holds the No. 2 spot in points per game with a mark of 16.4. 

Ashley Lovett is No. 3 among CCAA players in rebounds with an 8.8 average, while being featured at No. 4 in field goal percentage. On the national leaderboard for NCAA Division II, the Broncos rank 13th in field goal percentage and 19th in assist to turnover ratio.

Postseason Picture
The top six CCAA teams will advance to the conference tournament to be held in Stockton from March 5 through March 7. The NCAA Division II Tournament bracket will be unveiled on Sunday, March 8, with the top West Region squads earning spots. The first NCAA D-II regional polls will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Canned Food Drive

During the week of Feb. 16 through Feb. 22, the Broncos are collecting canned goods as part of the CCAA drive to help local food banks. Fans are encouraged to donate canned food items at the basketball doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 20 and then the baseball and basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 21.
