Broncos Top Stanislaus 63-46 in Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos took to the road Friday for a successful contest against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors. CPP secured the 63-46 victory and improved to an overall tally of 14-5 with a 12-3 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Jada Blackwell turned in yet another commanding performance for the Broncos, sinking 13-of-18 shots en route to a game leading 28 points.

Yet another Bronco of note was Ariel Marsh, who provided CPP with her usual offensive showcase. Her second three pointer pushed her past former teammate J.J. Judge on the all-time list for three pointers at CPP and that three marked number 150 in the senior's three years in Green and Gold.

Mian Dingle earned 10 rebounds for the Broncos in the game, which is a career high for the senior.

CPP proved to be too much defensively for the Warriors to handle as they held the home team to a mere 23.4 percent shooting from the field.

Despite a strong defensive showing from both teams for the first couple minutes of the game and no score, the Broncos were first on the board with a Blackwell layup. CPP tacked on six more points before the Warriors were able to answer back.

The Broncos kept the Warrior offense at bay through the first half allowing just a few single digit runs at the largest. CPP however produced a 12 point run that forced a Stanislaus timeout with 5:41 to go in the period. At the half, the game score stood at 33-21 in the Broncos' favor.

Coming out of the break, CPP had an answer for nearly every point the Warriors dished out. The second half saw the Green and Gold defense hold the home team to at most, a four-point spree. CPP saw its largest lead with 5:41 to play in the game as they led the Warriors by 21 points.

The final points in the game for the Broncos were put up by Marsh as she sank a pair of free throws. CSUS saw its last point a few seconds later with a successful three that gave the game its final 63-46 result.

With the loss, the Warriors move to a CCAA record of 4-11 and an overall 6-13 in the 2014-15 season thus far.

CPP will return to action Saturday night as they travel further north to take on the Chico State Wildcats at 5:30 in Art Acker Gymnasium.

Chico State bested UC San Diego on Friday with a winning score of 76-70 and improved to a 5-10 conference mark and a 8-11 season tally.
