ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Making the program's first-ever postseason trip to Alaska, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team will take on Cal State Dominguez Friday afternoon in Anchorage. It'll be a first-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament.
Playing in the Alaska Airlines Center with Alaska Anchorage serving as the host, the Broncos and Toros will tipoff at 3:30 p.m. Pacific (2:30 p.m. Alaska). For CPP fans unable to attend, there will be a viewing party in the Bronco Student Center and the game will air on campus cable channel 32-1.
This will be the 25th all-time appearance for Broncos' women's basketball in the NCAA Tournament. Through those appearances, CPP owns a 55-19 record with five national titles (1982, 1985, 1986, 2001 and 2002).

Danelle Bishop, the Broncos are 7-3 in the NCAA playoffs with two West Region titles. More than half of the CPP team is seniors, with six student-athletes in that class. California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Year
Jada Blackwell is in that senior group and she led the conference in scoring average at 19.7 points per game.
Friday's opponent – Cal State Dominguez Hills – is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and the team is 1-6 at this stage. The Toros have had the upper hand recently in the series with the Broncos. CSUDH has won the past three meetings, including two during the regular season this year and also the CCAA Championship tournament title game in 2013-14.
The Toros are led by junior guard Breanne Garcia, who earned CCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. She averaged 16 points at that postseason event and dished out five assists in the title win over Cal State East Bay.
As a team, the Broncos rank eighth nationally in field-goal percentage.
Mary Williams owns a team-best 58.3-percent mark from the field.
Ariel Marsh has been efficient at the free throw line, shooting 89.6 percent to rank 11th nationally. Blackwell is at No. 23 in Division II for points per game.
Dominguez Hills has been tough on the boards, ranking 12th nationally in rebound margin. Senior Talia Rayford has bolstered that part of the Toros' game as she averages 8.7 boards per game.
The winner of the Broncos-Toros matchup will advance to a 6 p.m. game on Saturday against the winner of the Seattle Pacific and Humboldt State showdown.
Friday will mark the second time that the Broncos have played in Alaska but it'll be the first postseason trip there.
Early in the 2006-07 campaign, CPP competed in a regular season tournament in Fairbanks. Previous postseason trips include visits to Arkansas, Colorado, Ohio, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington. .
