@CPPVB Dominates on Day Two, Wins Two!

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.-  The second and final day of the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic saw Cal Poly Pomona's volleyball team play matches against New Mexico Highlands and Westminster. The Broncos secured a three-set victory over the NMHU Cowgirls in their first match.  The Green and Gold then continued on to best the Griffins of Westminster in three-straight sets.

CPP 3 - NMHU 0

In the Broncos' first match of the day, they topped the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-0. The Green and Gold earned the victory after winning the sets 25-22, 25-15, and 25-17.

The first set saw two evenly matched teams. The scoreboard showed a tie score at 10 different points throughout the set and five different lead changes. Neither squad was able to string together more than three points at a given time. Fortunately for the CPP squad, the final lead change was in their favor.  The final point in the set was a service ace by Alina Smith.

The second set was the most dominant one for the Broncos as they topped the Cowgirls 25-15. A Deanna Blaine kill led things off for the CPP team, and though the Highlands' team kept it even through nine points, a five-point spree fueled by Blaine vaulted the Broncos into the lead. From that point on, NMHU was unable to post more than a single point at a time.

What would come to be the third and final set opened off with a kill by Nicoletta Stork. The CPP defense yet again would not allow the designated visitors to go on a run, as the Cowgirls didn't post more than two-consecutive points. The Green and Gold had four separate runs totaling three points or more, with a five-point spree from 12 to 17 being the largest run.

In the match, CPP's offensive leader was Stork, who posted a total of 15 kills in 27 attempts, as she was followed by Blaine, who posted eight kills as well as 17 digs. Blaine was one of three Broncos to post double-digit dig totals in the match. The Green and Gold leader in the match was Zoe Herrera, who tallied 18. Following behind Blaine in digs was Lauren Miller, who recorded 10.

CPP had five service aces with Blaine leading at two and Stork, Desirae Martin, and Herrera each tallying one.

CPP  3 - Westminster 0

In the final match of the Coyote Classic, the Broncos left their mark. They bested the visiting Griffins of Westminster in three-straight sets. As the match went on it was clear that the Broncos wanted the victory. Numerous point-sprees allowed the Green and Gold to decidedly win each set.

The first set of the match saw the two squads both start strong as the score remained tied through eight points. Fueled by a kill by Alexa Hasen, the Broncos were able to go on a five-point spree. From there on out, the CPP squad didn't allow the Griffins to post more than two-consecutive points at a given time. A Blaine kill gave the Broncos the final point to win the set 25-17.

A strong offensive showing by CPP to start off the second set provided an early 11-3 lead. The WC team was able to gain a little bit back, but the Green and Gold proved too far ahead to allow for a comeback. The final half of the set showed even scoring as the Broncos posted 14 to the Griffins' 15.

The third and final set continued things the CPP way, as an offensive onslaught saw the Broncos jump out ahead and never look back. Three-straight points to start the game and a 19-6 run gave the Green and Gold the means with which to earn the vctory. Yet again, the final kill of the game was Deanna Blaine as she ended the set and match at 25-15.

Stork provided the Green and Gold with a team high 13 kills. Herrera and Blaine both tallied 12 digs. Stork and Smith led the Broncos in assists with 19 and 21, respectively.
