POMONA, Calif. – As the 2015 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season kicks off, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team will play their first game in La Jolla as they face off against the Tritons of UC San Diego.
The match is set to being at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and the Broncos head into it with a 3-1-0 record thus far on the season.
The Green and Gold won both contests against their fellow SoCal team last year, besting the Tritons 1-0 at the Triton Soccer Stadium on Sept. 28, and earning the 2-0 victory on Nov. 2 at Kellogg Field. The all-time record between the two squads leans towards UCSD, as the Broncos have only won 11 matches. The Tritons have won 32 of those meetings and the teams have tied five times.
After La Jolla, the Green and Gold will stay down in San Diego County as they play the San Marcos Cougars. CSUSM is the newest member of the CCAA as they enter their first season in the conference. All-time the Cougars and the Broncos are both 1-1-1, so no strong leader has yet emerged.
The game against San Marcos will be held at Mangrum Track & Soccer Field and kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
CPP has had a very diverse offense this season as eight different members have scored a goal. Along with scoring, six members have recorded at least one assist, with
Stacey Atwater and
Natalie Di Angelo leading the way with two apiece.
Ricki Ives has been the Broncos' sole goalkeeper, posting all 360 minutes in the goal and racking up 10 saves while adding a pair of shutouts to her resume.
The Broncos will return to Kellogg Field on Fri. Sept. 25 as they host the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros at 4:30 p.m. The game will mark the annual Pack the Stands night as the CPP Athletics Department puts on numerous festivities and promotions.
