@cppwsoccer Tops Toros 3-1 on Pack the Stands

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team secured the 3-1 victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills in Friday's Pack the Stands Game. The Green and Gold earned the win in front of 613 screaming fans at Kellogg Field.

With the win, the Broncos improve to an overall record of 5-2 with a 2-1 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. CSUDH now holds a 1-6 mark on the 2015 season, with zero wins and three losses in conference play.

The Broncos were first on the board at Kellogg Field as Melissa Martinez took the goal herself. She dribbled from a distance and made her way around a couple of the Toros' defenders and shot low on the far post, but her ball made it into the back of the net. The goal was scored in minute 27 and marked her first of the season.

Just under 10 minutes later, the Toros put a one on the board as a jumble in front of the CPP goal resulted in a shot that got plopped over the head of the Green and Gold defenders and tied the game.

The Broncos would pull ahead again just before the halftime break. A pass from Sierra Molina provided Hailey James with the opportunity she needed to push the Broncos ahead. A shot that skinned the bottom half of the top post fell behind the Toros' keeper and put CPP up 2-1. The goal was the juniors second of the season.

A couple minutes after the halftime break, the Green and Gold would tack on a third goal. Newcomer Sierra Molina earned her first goal as a Bronco with a close shot that sailed over the goalie's head. Tori Tappero provided Molina with the pass and earned her second assist of the 2015 season.

CPP will return to action on Sunday as they host the Cal State LA Golden Eagles. The game marks the Broncos Special Olympics Recognition Day as they Cal Poly Pomona Athletic Department recognizes those athletes, participants, and volunteers who enabled the recent Special Olympics, held in Los Angeles, to be such a huge success.
