Broncos Split Year With CSULA After 74-61 Loss

LOS ANGELES - In the second meeting of the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos and Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles, the contest's victor proved to be the hometown Golden Eagles. The final score in the game was 74-61.

The squads split the regular season as the Broncos were victorious in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener at Kellogg Arena. CPP now sits with a 5-11 record on the season, complete with a 3-6 mark in conference play.

In Friday's matchup, there were three Broncos that reached double-digit points as the Green and Gold were led by Jordyn Shane and her 18-point performance. Following Shane's game-leading total and each with 12 points were Marshanique Hall and Priscilla Brooks.

Brooks also added to her already squad-leading rebound tally as she grabbed seven boards in the game.

The Golden Eagles were more successful than the Broncos from the field as they sank 51.1% of their shots and the visiting CPP squad found their mark on 36.5%. CSULA's offense gained their largest advantage in the game from beyond the arc.  The Broncos sank just two long-range shots while the Golden Eagles tallied 10.

The Green and Gold were more adept from the free throw line in the game as they sank 21 shots from the free throw line and CSULA was successful on 16 attempts.

CPP also was strong under the rim as they earned 16 second-chance points in the contest while the Golden Eagles tallied just two. In the paint, the Broncos also sank eight more points than the home team.

Unfortunately for the visiting Broncos, the hometown team held the lead through the vast majority of the game. The Green and Gold were able to hold the lead in the first quarter, but the Golden Eagles quickly regained the advantage and carried it through the rest of the contest.

CPP will continue its season on Saturday as they head to Carson to challenge the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros at the Torodome.  CSUDH topped the Humboldt State Jacks 75-61 on Friday and remain perfect in CCAA play.
