@CPPWBB to Host Warriors Thursday Night

By: Aaron Salazar

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball seeks to end its four-game losing streak this week with two games against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents at Kellogg Arena.

The Green and Gold enter the week with an overall record of 4-9 complete with a 2-4 record in CCAA play.

First up for CPP are the Warriors of Stanislaus State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors enter the contest with a 4-2 mark in CCAA play and 8-4 overall. The all-time series between the Broncos and Stan State shows CPP with a decisive advantage. The Green and Gold have won 37-of-44 matchups.

Last season, the two teams played two lopsided contests, both of which went in the favor of CPP. CPP won the games by scores of 86-59 at Kellogg Arena and 63-46 at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.

Looking beyond Thursday's matchup, the Broncos will host the Chico State Wildcats on Heroes Night Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30. Saturday's game against Chico State will mark Heroes Night for Bronco athletics as Police, Fire and Military personnel will receive free admission as a thanks for the selflessness of their actions and the services provided.

The Wildcats enter the contest with a record of 5-6. They are 1-5 in CCAA play. This is to be the first match between these two teams this year. They will meet again in a nationally-televised contest on Feb. 19 in Arcata.

The Broncos are currently on a three-game winning streak against the Wildcats. The streak dates back to the 2013-14 NCAA Division II West Region Tournament, where the Green and Gold won 89-80. Last season, CPP won both matches by scores of 81-76 and 72-57, respectively.

With 46 games played, the all-time series is even as both squads have secured 23 wins.

Freshman guard Jordyn Shane is leading the Broncos' offensive attack averaging 13.0 points per game. Senior center Mary Williams is second, averaging 9.4 points per game. On the defensive side, sophomore Priscilla Brooks leads the Green and Gold on the glass, averaging 8.3 rebounds per game.

The Broncos will hit the road for two games next week. They will head to the Eagles Nest to challenge the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles on Jan. 15. Upon completion of that game, the team will travel to Carson to take on the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros.
