Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CPP Falls To Warriors 67-50 in 1st Meeting

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team dropped their fifth-straight game on Thursday with a 67-50 loss to the Stanislaus State Warriors. The contest was held at Kellogg Arena as the Broncos' first home game of the 2016 calendar year.

The loss drops the Green and Gold to a season tally of 4-10, complete with a 2-5 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Stanislaus improved with the win to a CCAA showing of 5-2 en route to a 9-4 record on the season.

Jordyn Shane led the Broncos' offense in the contest as an 8-for-16 showing earned her 17 points. She also was second on squad in the rebound category with nine to her name. Second on the team with 10 total points was Marshanique Hall.

Priscilla Brooks was the Broncos' force to be reckoned with on defense as she grabbed 15 rebounds in the game. She added seven points on offense for the Green and Gold.

As a team, the Broncos' shooting percentage was higher than that of the opposition, but the game was closely matched in the category. From beyond the arc, the home team struggled though as they only sank 2-of-15 shots.

The Warriors proved slightly more prepared from the free throw line as they sank 15-of-27 shots while only six of the Broncos' 16 shots found their mark. CPP's defense did out-rebound Stan State though by a margin of eight.

With a Feb. 20 matchup in Turlock, the Broncos will have a chance to avenge the loss on the Warriors' home court in Fitzpatrick Arena. That contest will be held at 5:30 p.m.

In the second half of Thursday's game, the Warriors bounced back. They sank more than half of their shots from the field to take the lead that the Green and Gold had entered the halftime break with.

CPP will return to action on Saturday as they host the Chico State Wildcats at Kellogg Arena at 5:30 p.m. Chico is heading to Pomona after a 77-71 loss to the Humboldt State Jacks. Thus far this season, the Wildcats have amassed a 5-7 record with a 1-6 showing against in conference opponents.

Saturday's game against Chico State will mark Heroes Night for Bronco athletics as Police, Fire and Military personnel will receive free admission as a thanks for the selflessness of their actions and the services provided.
