Hall Lifts Broncos to 65-58 Win Over Chico

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team earned a 65-58 victory Saturday over the Chico State Wildcats. The win came on CPP's Heroes Night where Bronco Athletics give thanks to the men and women who serve our country, whether in the military, fire, police, or any other service position.
 
The win was the Green and Gold's fifth of the season and the Broncos now carry a 5-10 overall tally. They have also secured a 3-5 showing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Chico State now holds a conference tally of 1-7 en route to a 5-8 overall record thus far this season.
 
CPP had a great showing from its team members as three of them reached double-digit points. As a team, the Green and Gold successfully hit just over 44 percent of their shots taken in the contest. Marshanique Hall led the team with 22 total points on a 7-for-12 showing complete with four good shots from beyond the arc.
 
Joining Hall in the double-digit point club were Mary Williams and Alyssa Benton who provided their teammates with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Defensively, Priscilla Brooks topped the CPP squad, grabbing eight rebounds in the contest.
 
Each member of the Green and Gold in the game secured at least one rebound. Just two behind Brooks, with six of her own, was Benton.
 
The CPP defense limited the Wildcats' long-range offense to just 22.2% shooting from beyond the three point line. They also held the visitors to Kellogg Arena to 39.6% shooting from the field as a whole. Each team's bench locked down eight points in the game.
 
The Broncos were more active in the paint in the contest, scoring 22 of their points as such.
 
In the contest, the two teams were well-matched. The score was tied eight times and each team changed the lead four times. In the third quarter, the Wildcats would secure their largest lead with 32 seconds left and a six-point advantage.
 
CPP earned its largest lead of the game with the final basket of the game. With Benton's free throw with just two second on the clock, the Green and Gold secured the seven-point spread that they would finish the game with.
 
The Broncos will return to action on Friday, Jan. 15 as they travel to the Eagles Nest to challenge the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles. The contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. and marks the second meeting of the two squads this season.
 
In the first showdown between the Broncos and Golden Eagles at Kellogg Arena on Dec. 2, the Green and Gold routed the LA squad by a score of 82-45.
