SAN DIEGO – With balanced scoring and strong free-throw shooting, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team defeated Azusa Pacific on Saturday 67-56.

With three players scoring in double figures, the Broncos improved their record to 1-1. Erin Hagan led the way with 14 points while Dominique Dotson collected 12 points and Priscilla Brooks added 10. CPP sank 21 of its 25 free-throw attempts, including a 6-for-6 showing from Hagan. At the conclusion of the CCAA/PacWest Challenge, Chelsea Waddy-Blow was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

The Broncos outrebounded the Cougars Saturday 43-37 as Brooks grabbed a team-high nine boards. The junior from Riverside also tallied the most steals on the squad with four. Despite clinging to a 35-33 lead at the midway point, CPP outscored APU 32-23 through the final two quarters.

A three-pointer from the Cougars' Zoe March at the 54-second mark gave APU an 18-15 edge at the end of the first quarter. The margin spread to nine points early in the second quarter but a triple from Marshanique Hall snapped the Cougars' run

Waddy-Blow scored the final four points of the second quarter, giving CPP a 35-33 lead heading into intermission.  Although APU stole the advantage back through the middle of the third quarter, the Broncos finished that frame on an 8-0 run that featured two three-pointers by Dotson.

CPP kept a comfortable lead through the fourth quarter as the gap didn't fallow below six points.

Now that the Broncos have wrapped up the CCAA/PacWest Challenge with a 1-1 record, they'll turn their attention to next weekend's Yellowjacket Classic in Billings, Mont. On Friday, CPP takes on Black Hills State at 4:30 p.m. Pacific (5:30 p.m. Mountain).
