POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team cruised to a 90-55 victory over Antelope Valley on Tuesday night at Kellogg Arena.
It marked the home opener for the Broncos, who now own a 2-2 overall record. All of the first four games have been in non-conference action. CPP starts California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against UC San Diego.
Sophomore guard
Jordan Ogundiran proved to be one of many stars for the Broncos on Tuesday night. In the 35-point margin of victory over the Pioneers, Ogundiran finished with a double-double performance of 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists.
Joining Ogundiran in double figures were
Chris Sullivan with 15 points,
William Christmas with 14 points and
Daylan Lawrence adding 13 points.
Jeremy Dennis nearly tallied a double-double, totaling nine points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, the Broncos outrebounded Antelope Valley by a 50-19 margin. CPP shot 54.7 percent as a team from the field and 43.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Less than seven minutes into Tuesday's contest, the Broncos held an 18-5 lead. That spurt was capped off by a three-point play from Lawrence with two off a layup and another point from a free throw.
A last-second layup from Christmas pushed the CPP lead to 39-26 heading into halftime.
Midway through the second half,
Mason Dickerson dropped in a layup to put the Broncos' advantage at the 20-point mark.
Along with second-half dunks from
Justin Young, Dennis and Christmas, another exclamation point on the victory came with the final basket on
Bertram Mak's three-pointer.
