Broncos Cruise Past CETYS in Exhibition, 80-40

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team cruised to an 80-40 victory in Friday's exhibition home game against CETYS.

With the Tijuana-based team visiting Pomona on Friday afternoon, it marked the first time that CPP men's basketball hosted an international basketball team for an exhibition contest.

Junior Daylan Lawrence, a Rancho Cucamonga native, led the way with a team-best 18 points in just 20 minutes of action. He shot 6-for-11 from the field. Also scoring in double digits for CPP were Nikhil Peters with 17 points and Jordan Ogundiran contributing 10. Peters knocked down five three-pointers while the team went 15-for-34 from beyond the arc overall.

Sophomore Chris Sullivan nearly earned a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied eight points. Also helping the CPP offense was William Christmas, who dished out a team-high six assists. The Broncos' defense limited CETYS to 26.7-percent shooting through the 40 minutes of action.

CPP jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the game with that stretch being capped off by a Jordan Ogundiran layup. The lead widened to double digits just six minutes into the contest. A tip-in from Chris Sullivan with 1:36 left in the opening half put the Broncos' lead at 41-16 and a late three-pointer from CETYS brought the score to 41-19 heading into the break.

The Broncos' offense continued to stay strong in the second half, which started with an Ogundiran three-pointer and then two treys from Daylan Lawrence immediately after. The final basket for CPP came from Henry Cornelious as the team reached the 80-point mark.

Up next for the Broncos will be another exhibition game on Monday. Tipoff is at 5 p.m. as CPP hosts Chapman.
