Alex Gresham Leads Broncos to 3-1 Road Win

HAYWARD, Calif. - With an incredibly impressive performance from Alexandra Gresham, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team topped Cal State East Bay 3-1 Friday night in Hayward.

Gresham, a junior from Placentia, collected a season-high 21 kills with just one error for a hitting percentage of .500. She also contributed five digs and three blocks.

Joining Gresham with double-digit kills was Andrea Bosnic, who finished with 13 kills and 12 digs. Alina Smith totaled 33 assists while Samantha Figueroa recorded 26 digs to continue to lead the conference in that category.

The result improves the Broncos' marks to 6-17 overall and 2-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Pioneers fall to 12-11 overall and 8-7 through league play.

The two teams traded the lead multiple times in the opening set. CPP trailed 22-17 but finished the frame on an 8-1 run to take a 1-0 lead. In the final five points of the first set, Gresham earned two kills and a solo block.

In the second frame, the Broncos held a 22-16 edge and held off a late stretch of CSUEB points to take the 25-19 result. The Pioneers didn't back down and despite clinging to a 20-18 edge in the third, the home team finished with a 5-0 run to extend the match into a fourth set.

Bosnic tallied two kills in the first three points of the fourth frame, returning the momentum to CPP. Through the middle portion of the set, the Broncos rattled off a 9-1 run to put it out of reach. CPP took the set 25-19 to wrap up the 3-1 victory.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday in Seaside as they'll take on Cal State Monterey Bay at 7 p.m.
