SEASIDE, Calif. - In its final road match of the 2016 season, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 on Saturday in Seaside.
CPP's records improve to 7-17 overall and 3-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while the Otters fall to 10-13 overall and 5-11 through league play.
Four Broncos earned double-digit kill totals, led by a team-high 15 from
Andrea Bosnic.
Samantha Figueroa lifted the defensive effort by totaling 23 digs while Alina Smith and
Kay Powell split the setting duties and combined for 49 assists.
Kristen Hamlin posted 11 kills with a .375 hitting percentage. Desi Martin and
Deanna Blaine added 10 kills apiece.
The two teams traded the lead eight times in the first set but CPP prevailed 31-29 in the extended frame.
At one point in that opening set, the Broncos trailed 24-21. Starting with a Bosnic kill, CPP went on a 3-0 run to even the score. The Otters ended up with seven set points but the Broncos escaped each of those. After falling behind 29-28, CPP secured another run of three-straight points to take the 31-29 result.
The Broncos' defense held the Otters to a .128 hitting percentage in the second set as the visitors earned a 25-21 result to take a 2-0 lead. The CSUMBÂ offense caught fire in the third, hitting .444 to net a 25-11 result and extend the match into a fourth set.
CPP reversed the momentum, keeping the Otters to a .083 attack while the Broncos captured a 25-18 score to wrap up the 3-1 victory.
The Broncos will return home to host San Francisco State on Friday with a 7 p.m. first serve at Kellogg Arena.
