POMONA, Calif. - With three returners scoring in double figures, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team earned a 78-49 exhibition victory over CETYS on Friday afternoon at Kellogg Arena.
Senior guard
Erin Hagan led the way with a team-high 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting. Junior
Priscilla Brooks and sophomore
Jordyn Shane also tallied double-digit point totals, adding 13 and 11 respectively.
The Broncos shot 52.7 percent from the field and every CPP student-athlete that played scored at least one point. Freshman
Casey McWilliam led the CPP newcomers in points with seven. Rebounding proved to be a team effort and
Marshanique Hall led the way with six boards.
Despite starting slow offensively and trailing 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Broncos elevated their game in the second quarter. Hall dropped in a layup to return the lead to CPP and then
Dominique Dotson knocked down a three-pointer to widen the margin. Through the second quarter, the Broncos outscored CETYS by a score of 21-7.
The two squads played fairly even in the third quarter but McWilliam ended it with a three-pointer to give CPP a boost of momentum heading into the final quarter.
The Broncos' advantage continued to increase in the fourth quarter and newcomer
Kerianne Noonan sank a three-pointer for the team's final basket of the exhibition win.
Up next for CPP will be the season opener on Nov. 11. The Broncos will take on Point Loma at 7 p.m. to start a two-day CCAA/PacWest Challenge in San Diego.
