POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team suffered an 83-64 loss to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.
Jordan Ogundiran scored a team-high 23 points, including a 10-for-11 showing at the free throw line. Freshman
William Christmas joined him in double figures with 14 points as he went 6-for-11 from the floor.
CPP shot 41.8 percent on Saturday but couldn't slow down the Cougars from beyond the arc. CSUSM sank 14 of its 23 three-point attempts for a mark of 60.9 percent.
The Broncos fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). San Marcos improves to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The two teams traded the lead early in the first half as Ogundiran knocked down a triple to give CPP an 8-7 edge at the 16:25 mark. The Cougars' lead was just two points about midway through the opening half but the visitors extended it to 43-32 heading into intermission.
Early in the second half, the Broncos trimmed the gap to five points on a pair of occasions. The first was when
Henry Cornelious dropped in a layup at 16:42 and then again at 15:45 when Ogundiran sank two free throws.
The Cougars' offense picked up momentum once again and kept their advantage in double digits for the final 13 minutes of the game.
CPP returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 15 with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Cal State East Bay.
