POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team grinded through a long game against Cal State East Bay, eventually falling to the Pioneers 78-69 on Thursday night in Kellogg Arena.
The loss drops the Broncos to 2-6 overall on the year, going 0-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while East Bay improves to 8-2, 2-1 CCAA.
Jeremey Dennis led a Pomona squad that shot 43 percent from the field with 21 points while
Chris Sullivan and
Jordan Ogundiran each broke double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Both teams kept it close during the first half of play, as East Bay's Druce Asah scored three of his 19 points in the final seconds of the first half, giving the Pioneers a 28-22 lead at the break.
Ogundiran added a team high six rebounds along with five assists on the night.
Daylan Lawrence and
William Christmas each finished with eight points while Christmas, Dennis and Sullivan all finished with five rebounds apiece.
After falling behind by 14 points in the second half, the Broncos chipped away at CSUEB's lead, bringing the game to within three points, 71-68, with 2:02 left on the clock.
The Pioneers continued to find a way to hold the lead, coming up with 15 turnovers to take the win on the road. Jalen Richard led the way for East Bay, registering a game high 23 points.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena on Saturday night, hosting San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m.
