Broncos Fall to San Marcos in Overtime

POMONA, Calif. - In a back-and-forth battle on Saturday night in Kellogg Arena, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team dropped a 67-64 result to Cal State San Marcos in overtime.

The game featured nine lead changes and neither team pulled ahead by a double-digit margin. The Broncos led late in the fourth quarter but the Cougars pulled even to send the contest into overtime.

Trailing by three in the final seconds of overtime, CPP's last attempt fell just off the mark as San Marcos escaped with the victory. The Broncos fall to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Cougars now stand at 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Jackie Ricketson and Chelsea Waddy-Blow collected 14 points apiece to lead the CPP offense. Marshanique Hall joined them in double figures as she totaled 12 points. Ricketson, a sophomore from Chino Hills, played 45 minutes while adding seven rebounds and a team-high four assists.

CPP outrebounded the Cougars 50-32 but San Marcos won the turnover battle by an 18-7 margin.

The Broncos steadily built up a six-point edge early in the game. A Jordan Kimbrough jumper pushed the CPP advantage to 16-10 with the first basket of the second quarter. Priscilla Brooks scored the final four points of the half for the Broncos, who took a 27-20 edge into the break.

The Cougars took a lead early in the fourth quarter but then a Hall three-pointer pulled the score even at 51-51 with 3:21 to play. CPP took the lead but a Reagan Lille basket for CSUSM sent the contest into overtime.

Jordyn Shane provided the first points of overtime but the Cougars scored on the next possession before holding the lead the rest of the way.

The Broncos will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 15 with a 5:30 p.m. home game against Cal State East Bay.
