POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team ended a four game skid on Saturday night, defeating Cal State San Bernardino 69-61 to pick up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the year in Kellogg Arena.
The win moves the Broncos to 3-6 overall on the year, going 1-4 in the CCAA while the Coyotes fall to 5-4, 1-3 CCAA.
Things opened up Pomona's way in the first half after a three-pointer by
Nikhil Peters gave the Broncos an early 14-7 lead.
Three CPP players finished in double-digits in points, led by
Chris Sullivan with 14 points, going 6-of-9 from the field.
After San Bernardino fought back to take a 15-14 lead, Sullivan nailed a jumper from behind the arc to give CPP the lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 28-26 advantage into halftime.
Following Sullivan,
Mason Dickerson tallied 13 points while
Jeremy Dennis finished with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.
With both teams scoring back and forth, the Broncos held off the visiting Coyotes, shooting 68 percent from the field in the second half, ending the game with a shooting percentage of 50 percent on the night.
Daylan Lawrence was key for CPP winning the rebounding margin, 35-29, grabbing a game high nine rebounds with six points while
William Christmas ended his night with eight points.
The Broncos will take a holiday break before returning to conference action on December 30
th for a road game at Sonoma State.
