Comeback Bid Falls Short for the Broncos in Overtime

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The comeback bid fell just short for the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team, who battled back to send the game into overtime against Sonoma State before ending in a 70-68 loss on Friday night at Santa Rosa Junior College.

The Broncos (3-7, 1-5 CCAA) trailed by as much as 16 points in the second half before fighting their way back in the game with Jeremy Dennis hitting a 3-pointer to extend the game with a score of 62-62.

In overtime, it was William Christmas who nailed a shot from behind the arc for the Broncos, tying the game back up at 68-68 before two final free throws by Sonoma State's Mason Phillips sealed the game for the Seawolves.

The win moves Sonoma to 7-4 overall on the year with 3-2 mark in the CCAA.

CPP's Mason Dickerson led both teams with a season high 19 points, going 3-of-5 from three-point range while Dennis added 18 points and six rebounds.

Down 47-31 with 13:33 left to play, the Broncos closed out the half outscoring Sonoma 31-15, and shooting 48 percent from the field in the period.

Chris Sullivan finished with eight points and a team high eight rebounds for Pomona as Jordan Ogundiran tallied five points, five assists and six rebounds on the night.

The Broncos return to the court next week as they travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday and Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday.
