Broncos Claim Second Straight Victory, Defeat CSUSB 58-49

POMONA, Calif. – Looking to move into the top spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team got a step closer, defeating Cal State San Bernardino 58-49 at Kellogg Arena on Saturday night.
 
The Broncos made it two in a row after defeating Cal State East Bay on Thursday night, improving to 6-5 overall on the season, going 4-1 in the CCAA.
 
In a total team effort, Jackie Ricketson led the way with 14 points along with four rebounds and four assists followed by Chelsea Waddy-Blow with 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Broncos moved quickly on offense, jumping out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. CPP built on that lead as the game continued, ending the first quarter with a 21-10 advantage.
 
The Coyotes were determined to keep it competitive, outscoring CPP 16-7 in the second quarter to head to the locker rooms down 28-26. Mya Johnson was the offensive force for CSUSB, tallying 12 points as Leelee Owens finished with nine points.
 
The Broncos edged out San Bernardino throughout the night, winning the rebounding margin 25-20, including a 13-6 advantage in offensive rebounds.
 
Pomona's Priscilla Brooks finished one-point shy of a double-double, totaling nine points with 10 rebounds while Marshanique Hall and Dominique Dotson both ended with seven points.
 
With 5:42 left in the fourth quarter, the Broncos used another 7-0 run to pull away from the Coyotes for good, outscoring the visitors 11-4 in the final minutes of the game.
 
Pomona will take a small break before returning to conference play on December 30, traveling to Sonoma State.
