Quick Start Not Enough for Broncos on the Road, Lose to SSU 74-62

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Despite a quick start on the road, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team couldn't hang on against Sonoma State, losing 74-62 at Santa Rosa Junior College on Friday night.

The Broncos fall to 6-6 overall on the year, and 4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while Sonoma improves to 7-3, 3-2 CCAA.

The first quarter went Pomona's way, as Dominique Dotson scored eight of her team high 20 points, giving the Broncos a 17-8 advantage. Dotson added three assists and one steal on the night.

Sonoma State kept the game close, opening the second quarter on a 10-3 run. Sonoma outscored CPP 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead in the final seconds of the first half. SSU's Carly Gill led both squads with 27 points, including a 5-of-5 performance from behind the arc.

The Seawolves shot 44 percent from the field compared to 38 percent for the Broncos along with holding a 74 to 52 percent advantage from the free throw line to hold off CPP for the remainder of the night.

Marshanique Hall, Casey McWilliam, and Jordyn Shane each tallied nine points on the night while Chelsea Waddy-Blow finished with a team high nine rebounds along with five points.

Sonoma totaled 18 points off turnovers compared to only three points for the Broncos, as Kim Savio and Kylie Kiech scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
