POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team will head north for a weekend road trip series against both the Sonoma State Seawolves and the San Francisco State Gators. First, the Broncos will play Sonoma on Friday then turn their sights to the Gators on Saturday.
Friday's contest in Rohnert Park will be against the Sonoma State Seawolves as the 7-13, 5-8 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play Broncos challenge the 3-10 CCAA, 8-14 overall Seawolves. The matchup will take place at 5:30 p.m. and will be the only regular season meeting between the two squads this season.
The all-time series between the Broncos and Seawolves stands pretty heavily in the Green and Gold's favor as they have won 31-of-40 total contests. CPP topped the NorCal opposition in both regular season meetings last year, first winning 80-56 at Kellogg Arena, then defeating the Seawolves and The Wolves' Den 84-59 just over a month later.
After CPP challenges the SSU squad, they will head to the Bay to challenge the San Francisco State Gators on their home court. Much like the series last season against Sonoma, the Broncos secured victory twice against the SFSU team. On Pack the Gym night at Kellogg, CPP routed the Gators 80-43, then as they headed north, a much closer matchup took place but the Broncos still won 74-67.
With the addition of Cal State San Marcos to the league at the beginning of the year, schedules changed and this will also be the Broncos' only regular season matchup against the Gators. The all-time contest between these two squads also stands heavily in CPP's favor as they have won 39 games to the Gators' nine.
The Gators will enter Saturday's matchup after first playing the Humboldt State Jacks on Friday. SFSU currently holds a 3-10 conference record en route to their 5-14 performance on the season. The NorCal squad's three league wins have come against Chico State and twice against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Once this weekend's play is concluded, the Broncos will have just five more regular season contests, including three home games at Kellogg Arena. Next week will feature the Green and Gold hosting Cal State Monterey Bay for Faculty Staff Appreciation Night on Thursday, then Cal State East Bay for Special Olympics Recognition Night on Saturday.
Following those two contests CPP will hit the road for two games, then return home for the regular season finale with Homecoming Game and Senior Night against the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
