HAYWARD, Calif.- The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team secured the three-game sweep of the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Saturday. After winning the first game by seven, a late surge by the CPP offense gave them a comeback with in the second game.

The Broncos improve to a 19-9 mark on the season, complete with an 11-6 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The loss for the Pioneers dropped them to a 5-8 record in conference play en route to a season tally of 14-10.

The Broncos next will return home to host the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.

GAME ONE: CPP 11 – CSUEB 4Austin Koval started on the mound for the Broncos in the first game of Saturday's double header. His solid outing earned him his fourth win of the season, and improves his personal record to 4-1. Koval pitched for seven complete innings and allowed five hits and two runs to score. He added a pair of strikeouts to his game resume and threw just 68 total pitches.

After Koval's start, the Broncos turned the ball over to
Zach Williams who leads the pitching staff with a 0.79 earned run average. The senior also leads the team with 13 total appearances on the season. He dealt for an inning on the bump and allowed no hits and no runs to score.

Closing out the game with one out each for CPP were
Kohto Hasegawa,
Erik Trask, and
Peter Beattie.

In the game, the Green and Gold's offense tallied 16 hits and scored at least one run in five of the nine innings of gameplay. The squad's first runs came in the third inning.
Chris Stratton singled scoring
Cody Martin and moving
Jacob Bernardy to third.

After the first run scored,
Nicholas Bruno singled and scored Bernardy.
Jared James then grounded into a double play, but with no outs on the board, the play allowed for Stratton to score. In the bottom hald of the inning, the home town Pioneers managed to score one of their own on a single through the right side.

CPP then received another run in the fourth as Bernardy singled through the left side to score Martin. Answering back in the bottom half of the same inning, the CSUEB team scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, the Broncos posted four runs starting off as
Jason Padlo singled up the middle and scored both Bruno and Stratton.
Nic Hernandez then doubled to left center to bring Padlo round to home. The final run in the inning was at the hands of
Daniel Pitts as a double down the left field line scored Hernandez.

With the seventh inning underway,
Michael Erb launched his first-ever homerun as a Bronco with a shot to left field that gave CPP its ninth run of the contest. The following inning, Martin doubled to left center to score Pitts and then, with the bases loaded,
Matt Reynoso singled to second to score Martin.
Â
The Pioneers posted two in the ninth, but the Broncos secured the win 11-4. Joshua Kubiske, the home team's starting pitcher was credited with the loss in the contest and falls to a 1-2 record on the season.
GAME TWO: CPP 5- CSUEB 4Â
The second game saw an exciting final inning for the Broncos as a come-from-behind three run ninth gave CPP a 5-4 lead and eventually, the win.

Starting on the mound for CPP was
Peter Bayer, the senior lasted three innings and allowed a pair of runs on five hits. After his showing,
Ryan Alsworth took the mound for the Green and Gold and pitched for four innings. The sophomore allowed a pair of runs on as many hits.

Wyatt Shackleford pitched all but the final out in the game for the Broncos, and due to the late acquisition of the lead, secured the win. His performance included 1.2 innings pitched and no hits or runs allowed.
Tyler Rowe came in to secure the save as he locked down the final out via flyout.

In the first inning, the hometown Pioneers scored twice as a stolen vase and single through the right side saw them post their runs.

The fourth inning came with Pitts launching his first career homerun for CPP and with it locking down the Broncos' first run. Fast forward to the next inning and the Green and Gold earned their tying run as Stratton doubled to left center to score
Sean Grebeck after he reached via walk.

In the bottom of the seventh the home team took back the lead with two runs as a pair fielding errors by the CPP infield gave them the 4-2 lead.

Looking at the ninth, with two outs and the Broncos trailing,
Jason Padlo singled through the left side, then a pinch hitting Hernandez doubled to move Padlo to third and take second himself.
Jacob Bernardy then singled to center field to score both of his teammates and tie the game at 4-4. Bruno, the next batter, then singled to center to score Bernardy and give CPP the 5-4 lead.

A pair of fly balls gave the CPP pitching staff two outs in the bottom of the final inning. Rowe came in for Shackleford and locked down the final out with a flyout to center field.
