Game One: CPP 8 – CSUDH 2
Â
What started out looking as if it was going to remain a low scoring ballgame turned into anything but as the Broncos scored six runs in the tenth inning to earn their ninth-straight victory.
Â
Peter Bayer started on the mound for CPP and dealt for five innings, scattering just five hits allowing only a single run for the hometown Toros. After Bayer left the game,
Peter Beattie climbed the hill in the bottom of the sixth, and his performance earned him the win with four innings of two hit, one run ball.
Â
Beattie's record improved to 4-1 on the season. Closing out the game for the Green and Gold in the tenth was
Wyatt Shackleford, who retired his three batters faced in order, including a strikeout.
Â
In the first inning, the home team took an early lead with a single down the right field line. The Toros would score again in the sixth with a well-executed sacrifice bunt. That marked the CSUDH team's second and final run of the contest.
Â
In the seventh,
Ryan Webberley hit his fourth homerun of the season over the left center field fence. In that same inning, the Broncos tied it up as a triple from
Jared James scored
Michael Zidek.
Â
With the score tied at 2-2, the game went to extras. The go ahead run for CPP came as
Nicholas Bruno was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Also with the bases juiced, James walked,
Jacob Bernardy was hit by a pitch, and
Michael Erb walked.
Â
After Erb's walk brought home run No. 6, a wild pitch scored James, and a walk to
Nic Hernandez scored Bernardy for the Green and Gold's final run.
Â
Game Two: CPP 5 – CSUDH 6
Â
Late inning scoring was the name of the game for the Broncos on Saturday as three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh tied them again with the Toros in the seven-inning regular season finale. Starting on the bump for the Broncos in the contest was
Kohto Hasegawa. The CPP sophomore threw for three innings and allowed two runs to score on five hits.
Â
A single to right center from the Toros' designated hitter scored a pair of his teammates as he put his team on the board quick 2-0 in the first.
Â
With
Matthew Grier on the mound for CPP, another run came across for the home team in the bottom of the fifth. A single with a throwing error by the Green and Gold's shortstop enabled the third run to score.
Â
The Bronco to watch in the contest was
Alex Gaskin, the CPP left fielder was 4-for-4 in the game and scored the first Bronco run as he was doubled home by
Frankie Nogales in the top of the sixth.
Â
Inning No. 6 also came with an RBI single for
Sean Grebeck. His knock to right field got away from the right fielder and scored Nogales.
Chris Stratton then provided CPP with a single to score
Matt Reynoso and tie up the score at 3-3.Â
Â
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Toros scored a pair of runs to take the lead back from the Broncos. A single to right field from their first baseman brought home the duo of runs and put them in the lead.Â
Not to be outdone, the Broncos scored a pair of runs to tie it up in the top half of the scheduled seventh and final inning.
Caleb Romo pinch hit for the Broncos and singled through the right side followed by a double from Pitts to score runs four and five.
Â
In the bottom half of the seventh, the Toros singled down the left field line to score the sixth and winning run.
